Nawaz Rather becomes first Ranji Trophy player from Poonch | Pir Panjal Post

Poonch: Nawaz Ul Munir Rather, a resident of village Chela Dhangri of Mandi block, is the first Ranji Trophy player from district Poonch since independence. He played this prestigious tournament during 2019-20 season. Ranji Trophy is often considered as world's highest rated domestic cricket tournament. Nawaz has also remained an active player of 2018-19 season of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. 




Nawaz, who has also played U14, U16 and U19 with good stats as a wicket keeper batsman remains dedicated to his cricketing passion with full enthusiasm and commitment. After playing seven school nationals and captaining J&K team for three times at the U-19 level, it took Nawaz seven long years to get in the reckoning of J&K senior cricket team.

In addition to all the aforesaid achievements, Nawaz added another feather to his cap when he became only second player from Jammu and Kashmir, who got sponsorship from sports gear manufacturing firm, BDM. He was also awarded as the best wicket keeper at National level wicket keeping camp at Delhi where many renowned wicket keepers from different parts of country were participating.

The participation of Nawaz Rather, in such prestigious cricket tournaments will encourage more talented cricketers from Poonch to pursue career in cricket.
